South London’s Ceebo is emerging as one of the UK’s most daring voices, this time around weaving raw social insight and digital era disillusionment into music that hits harder with every release. His upcoming mixtape Blair Babies captures a generation raised in the aftermath of New Labour, shaped by crash after crash - economic, cultural and personal.
This however isn’t nostalgia. Ceebo isn’t looking back but holding a mirror to now. Over the past year, Ceebo’s profile has surged. His 2024 LAMBETHNOTLA release was a major moment as a sharp, high impact mixtape that built on quiet murmurs and an earlier buzz to cement his reputation as one of the UK underground’s most compelling storytellers. Tipped by Complex as one of the year’s standout releases, it delivered on the promise he’d been building and opened the door to wider recognition both amongst fans and his peers.
The project arrives off of the back of a huge summer for Ceebo as viral singles such as I Had a Line ft Chefbkay and took his music to new audiences online. He also headlined shows alongside artists such as TRGoBrazy, BXKS and Jim Legxacy, and standout guest appearances on afrosurrealist’s acclaimed BUYBRITISH compilation.
Ceebo’s sound is experimental, evocative and rooted in the grit and soul of Lambeth but his perspective expansive. On Blair Babies, he zooms out to capture the disorientation, defiance and digital dysfunction of a generation raised under New Labour.
With a title that seeks to reference collective memory and generational reckoning, Blair Babies is certainly a bold statement from an artist who is already being hailed as a standout talent in UK rap. Now, he sets the tone for Blair Babies with its powerful lead single ‘pentecost of living’ , produced by
Chefbkay and Jim Legxacy. A vivid reflection on guilt and being ambitious in a system built to fail the working class, the track is a confessional prayer and a street sermon all at once. Ceebo once spoke on his drive to release a body of work that ‘lives past the time it was created in’ . With
Blair Babies, that ambition comes closer into view as a project made for now, but destined to echo well beyond 2025.
