JD. Reid is a producer redefining expectations, blending together a lucid mix of styles and genres to create his own, mercurial subdivisions of sound - and his impact is being felt right from the top of the UK charts to the underground clubs, parties and scenes that helped launch him.
Born in North West London, his musical beginnings began via his love of Grime at secondary school in the mid-noughties, although his tastes in music continued to broaden as he grew up. Fast forward to 2018 and there are nods to Hip Hop, the LA Beats scene, R&B, Trap, Dancehall, Grime, Jazz and more within his music, connecting the dots between genres and scenes.
"Slowly but surely London producer JD. Reid has been establishing himself as one of the more versatile producers in the city." - The Fader
As a producer and beat-maker, JD's studio work has blessed projects for the likes of Mabel (breakout UK chart hits 'Finders Keepers' and follow-up 'Fine Line') Katy B, Sinead Harnett, 808INK, Prodigy (Mobb Deep), Fatima, Faze Miyake and plenty more, cementing his credentials as one of the UK's most indemand creative minds. For his own projects, JD has also enlisted the likes of D Double E, Novelist, slowthai, Kojey Radical, Hodgy (formerly of Odd Future) and Mr Carmack too, via labels including Rinse, Terrorhythm and Astral Black.
Fresh off the back of a year that saw him score his first Top 10 in the UK with Mabel, release widely-acclaimed EP 'Calibrate' via Rinse and DJ in more cities across Europe than ever before, 2018 has already seen JD release debut mixtape project, 'Tree', via his new Baby Gravy label. A 15-track mixtape project exploring a kaleidoscopic range of sounds and ideas, 'Tree' spotlights not only his versatility but also JD's relentless work ethic, bringing together an extensive cast of singers, rappers and musicians in the process.
"It's this interconnectivity that supplies 'Tree' with its over-arching concept; the tape has deep roots, but it's branches extend outwards into fresh ideas. It's the work of a confident young voice, with JD. Reid's opening two EPs on Rinse helping pave the way for a brave and breathlessly ambitious project." - CLASH
As a DJ, JD has also made plenty of headway over the last few years.
Emboldened by his essential monthly show on Rinse FM, his sets often mirror the widescreen scope of his production work, meaning he's as comfortable spinning 8-bar grime with MCs as he is playing alongside vocalists & fellow producers. Recent festival appearances at Splash Fest, Patta's King's Day and ADE also paved the way for JD play in a host of European cities for the first time in 2017/8 including Geneva, Vienna, Brussels, Prague and Cologne.
