NOISIA | BIOGRAPHY 2026

Noisia are Nik Roos, Martijn van Sonderen and Thijs de Vlieger. Formed in Groningen at the turn of the millennium, the trio developed a body of work that has had a lasting influence on electronic music, particularly in drum & bass, while consistently reaching beyond the boundaries of any one genre.Their approach has always been rooted as much in process as in style. Across more than two decades of music, Noisia became known for an unusually detailed approach to production and sound design, moving between precision engineered club music, experimental electronics, hip hop, composition and audiovisual work. That range can be heard across their albums Split The Atom, Outer Edges and Closer, as well as I Am Legion, their collaborative project with Foreign Beggars. Their work has extended into games including Devil May Cry, film and contemporary performance, while their collaborations and remixes have connected them with artists including Amon Tobin, Skrillex and The Prodigy, among many others. Their Outer Edges audiovisual show expanded the project further, translating the detail and physicality of their music into an immersive live format.Alongside their own music, Noisia built an ecosystem around it. Through VISION, Noisia Radio, later VISION Radio, and the Noisia Invites events, the trio created platforms for new music and helped establish Groningen as an important point on the international electronic music map. Their influence has travelled beyond their own catalogue through the artists they supported, collaborated with and encouraged, and through an approach to production that became part of the wider language of modern bass music. In September 2019, Noisia announced their decision to end the project. What was originally intended to conclude at the end of 2020 was extended following the pandemic, allowing the trio to complete their farewell shows and release Closer in 2022. The album collected music developed during the period following Outer Edges and before Noisia reached the decision to stop. The years that followed gave Roos, van Sonderen and de Vlieger space to develop independently. Roos continued with Sleepnet and later formed Ring Noord with Former, alongside work across production, scoring and audio technology. De Vlieger developed his work as Thys across club music, film, contemporary dance, instrumental composition and the VIER collective. Van Sonderen continued with Zonderling, alongside writing and production work across house, melodic techno, pop and hip hop under his producer name, NSR.

In 2026, Noisia are working together again.

They return to the project on different terms. Their individual work continues alongside Noisia, while the trio have begun exchanging ideas, making music and reconnecting with their existing material. There are works in progress rather than a predetermined destination, and live performance will form part of discovering what those ideas can become.

On December 4th, 2026, Noisia return to Amsterdam’s Melkweg for their first performance together since the conclusion of their farewell tour. Further shows are planned, with the forthcoming run becoming part of the creative process as new and developing material is tested in front of an audience.

What comes next remains deliberately open.

    Noisia: 'Outer Edges' Album Leak

"Friday night, while we were in the final minutes of setting up the stage for our first ever 'Outer Edges' show, we received the news that our album had been leaked. We think you can imagine how bad we felt at that moment :'(

We realise it's 2016, and things like these happen all the time. Still, it's quite a setback. All the plans we've made have to be scrapped and replaced by something less ideal, because we have to react to this unfortunate situation.

So far in releasing this album, we've made a conscious effort to make every track that's available somewhere, available everywhere. If you pre-ordered the album on Itunes or our webstore, you received the new track the same day it was first premiered on Soundcloud. We believe that users of all platforms should be able to listen to our music pretty much the minute it's available anywhere else. In this philosophy, the availability of our whole album on illegal download sites means that we have to make it available on all platforms.

    So here's our reaction:
We have immediately changed all our previous plans and made the whole album available to buy on our web store right now. All other digital platforms will follow this Friday August 5th, that was the quickest date we could manage. The physical products (Vinyl/CD/Merch) are still in production so their release date will remain September 16th.

Even though we are unhappy about this leak, we're still really happy with the music. We really hope you will enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed making it.

    Love,
    Thijs, Martijn, Nik"
