Twin Atlantic: New Single & Video 'Novocaine'

Twin Atlantic continue their glorious return with the thought-provoking, subconscious-diving video to their brand new single 'Novocaine', taken from their charged-up fourth LP 'POWER' - out January 24th and their first release on Virgin EMI.

The debut single, which The Guardian recently described as a "huge breakneck synth-rock anthem that harks back to their country's Big Music", and that The Independent labelled as a "stadium sized anthem", is as of today 'Tune Of The Week' on BBC Radio 1.

Directed by Alex Nicholson (Circa Waves, The Sherlocks), the frantic video draws on the inspiration of colour, mood & memory, interchanged with an adrenalised band performance. Working within a visual restriction, the band have produced an impressive must-see creative spectacle.

Speaking of the themes and concepts for the video, frontman Sam McTrusty comments; "The collage approach to Alex's idea was really appealing to us. It's the exact same way we have been approaching writing lyrics on this album. A sound or a colour evoke a feeling or a memory and you chase that down a rabbit hole and see what it unravels from your subconscious. To have a director listen to the song and get that was lucky. Working to the limitations of just red, green and blue lighting was another way this ties into the record. We've found that by limiting ourselves we actually use more of our imagination and creativity."

Nicholson says of the video; "I really wanted to create something different for this incredibly powerful song. I wanted the viewer to feel, to live the lyrics and to ignore everything else around them; just digest what they were watching. It's a sensory experience. Put on your headphones, ignore everything else around you and immerse yourself in the epic sound and visuals".

Tapping into their LCD Soundsystem fandom, and acknowledging the influence of Depeche Mode, 'POWER' is eight punchy tracks and two compelling interludes. No fat, no fuss, all fire, made by a band plugging in, turning it up and taking charge. The message: here are their new songs, take them - and the band - as you find them.

After ten years, Twin Atlantic got their Glasgow studio fully up-and-running. They gigged for thrills, and used the money to fund the album they wanted to make. They took charge of production. And only then, when all that was done and dusted, did they sign a new record deal. Yes, they had to do everything themselves - and they'd have had it no other way.

McTrusty explains; "We just got into a room and started creating. The studio as its own instrument reached a new level - we created nothing outside those walls and it became a physical embodiment of the album itself. 'POWER' is our own example that there's always a way forward when you are faced with limitations and red lights. It's reignited our ambition and drive for what we can achieve. Hearing these songs, that's what I feel and hear: power," concludes Sam McTrusty. "And that's what the last two years have made us feel as a band: totally empowered."

Following a blistering main stage performance at Reading & Leeds Festival, as well as supporting The 1975 in Glasgow, Twin make their full live return with the announcement of a March underplay tour, including an intimate night at London's Electric Ballroom. The band will also play a run of UK arena dates this week in support to Catfish And The Bottlemen.
