Nottingham-raised, London-based future soul artist B-ahwe pushes her sound into new territories with her 26% Mixtape. Borne out of the move to a new city, life in lockdown and embracing new methods of creativity, the project explores themes of growth, femininity and mental health, as well as confronting the societal stigma around achieving things by a certain age. The mission statement is: ‘age is a percentage, not a number’.

Now residing in South London after shaping her sound in Leeds, alt-soul artist B-ahwe’s ability to tell intricately woven stories has begun to turn heads. With a focus on rich vocal arrangements, lush instrumentals and poetic lyricism, she explores themes of femininity, mental health, and relationships, whilst challenging societal ideals.

The tape, 26%, features the trademark jazz inflected, future soul sound that’s seen her turn the heads of BBC Introducing, Jamz Supernova and Jack Saunders, but pushes this in bold new directions. It acts as a blank canvas for her to incorporate influences spanning drum n' bass, broken beat and alternative hip-hop. It's a timestamp of the influence of being in a new city, binding genres together seamlessly with both long-term collaborator TAMBALA (College Music), and new partners Hemai (Tru Thoughts) and Lorenz (Steam Down).
