Having lent her breathtaking vocals to greats like Gorillaz, SBTRKT, Shy FX, Machinedrum, Brasstracks and more, this year Roses Gabor sets out her stall as a solo artist of some genius.
Her experience working with other huge artists - which started when she randomly met a member of Gorillaz while still working her 9 to 5 at a bank - has given her blockbusting debut album a confident finesse.
Roses has been at the nexus of the most exciting UK electronic soul music of recent times. With new material on the horizon, Roses is weaving her own rainbow, casting her own magic and stepping out as her own starlet.

North West Londoner Roses Gabor has sung for some of the greats in her journey to this point. She has lent her vocal to multiple tracks from the original digital soundboy and London raga-jungle legend Shy FX. It was her voice that blessed pioneering club/pop stylist SBTRKT's biggest track 'Pharaohs'. And that's before you connect the dots and realise it's her singing Gorillaz's mammoth hit 'DARE' live on tour with Damon and co.
But now its 2018 and Roses is audaciously launching her solo vision, starting with this arresting single produced by Mercury Prize winner, friend and fellow Londoner Sampha Sisay. Sampha has previously collaborated with Drake, Kanye West and Solange.
It's a fascinating taste of what is to come from Roses this year as she reveals more of herself and her song-writing muse. Born to Grenadian parents, Roses was reared on the groove of new jack swing R&B, classic Stevie Wonder, soca and the commercial sounds of Capital FM blaring from her carpenter father's van driving through London. Mary J Blige was her first musical love.
On 'Illusions' we find her laying in the couple's bed as a pairing disintegrates. Sampha assists with his distinctive BVs and signature meditative production. It's a taste of what's to come in a year when Roses will be taken to heart across the globe.
