Dream McLean: New Single 'Sloe Gin'

This year things are looking hugely exciting for East London's Dream Mclean who is set to drop his second single 'Sloe Gin' (produced by Nightwatch) courtesy of Chase & Status' MTA Records imprint.

Dream's flow is undeniably witty and slick, considerably more so than an artist only on their second release - a clear sign of his early maturity and illustrating the hard graft that has clearly gone into the crafting of him as an artist. As for the beat, think Timbaland circa 2000 - need we say more?!

As if this wasn't enough, 'Sloe Gin' has been championed by the likes of 1Xtra's Mistajam, which highlights that Dream is unquestionably ready to captivate the growing hype surrounding him, and lay down the gauntlet for all other UK vocalists.

  • Best Of Goldie
    26 Feb, 2013

Goldie:'The Alchemist: The Best of Goldie 1992-2012'

In 2013 Goldie completes a remarkable 20 years as a recording artist. To celebrate this impressive milestone, Metalheadz and Warner Music are coming together to release Goldie's first ever career-spanning retrospective entitled 'The Alchemist: The Best Of Goldie 1992-2012'.
Released on March 11th, on triple-disc CD and digital download, this definitive collection reads like a Drum & Bass almanac.

It was a move to London and a visit to the Rage Club in 1991 that changed everything for the talented graffiti artist from the West Midlands. DJ Fabio and Grooverider were playing that night and gave Goldie his first taste of Jungle. That night a fledgling career in music was born and the rest, as they say, is history. Inspired by what he heard, Goldie went on to write the incredible and hauntingly dark 'Terminator', a track that became a massive hit on the burgeoning underground Jungle scene.

Two decades on and this album becomes the first retrospective of Goldie's long and illustrious career. It is a collection that takes us on a veritable 20 year journey through the Drum & Bass scene, from the epic opening track, 'Malice In Wonderland' through to the truly extraordinary 'Timeless'.

And there's a brand new track to savour as well. The sublime 'Single Petal Of A Rose', the first new Goldie track of 2013 is exclusive to this collection and a must-hear for fans everywhere.

Disc 3 of the album compiles together the best of Goldie's mixes for other artists including his sublime interpretation of Bjork's 'Isobel' and Garbage's 'Milk'. Other artists' interpretations of Goldie's own tracks are also included including the stonking Armand Van Helden remix of 'Digital' and the ethereal beauty of the Baby Boy Edit of 'Inner City Life'.

In short this collection is a stunning testament to Goldie's position as the undisputed 'Godfather' of Drum & Bass.

Dave Clarke: Re-releases 'Wisdom To The Wise' on Boysnoize

Every self-respecting artist who possesses a discography spanning more than two decades should contain certain career highlights when it comes to music releases. In Dave Clarke's case these highlights are simply too many to mention individually, but it's safe to say that Clarke's 'Red' trilogy is considered to be an undisputed milestone in the techno genre and dance scene across the board. It comes as no surprise that DJ Mag incorporated one of the 'Red's in its 'All Time Techno Top 100' list.

One of those true 'Red' techno classics is 'Wisdom To The Wise', taken from 'Red 2'. A raw, uncompromising tune, still championed by many a DJ today 19(!) years after its first release. Boys Noize snapped up 'Wisdom To The Wise' for a well-deserved re-release on the Boysnoize Records imprint.
Steve Rachmad had the timely idea, as if supernaturally aware of the upcoming reissue, and out of the blue came up with two deep and respectful remixes.

Boys Noize, besides providing an up to date solid remix himself, asked Berlin based Marcel Dettmann to rework this DC classic. In addition, Dave wanted the sub bass master Mr. A. Mochi to compliment the original with a fresh new edit which remains very close to Dave's original version.
Out on Boysnoize Records on the 4th of March 2013.

Baauer: 'Harlem Shake' #1 on the Billboard Chart

Changes to the way in which the Billboard Hot 100 in the USA is compiled, have helped Baauer's 'Harlem Shake' get to #1 spot. YouTube views have now been added to the other criteria, by which the chart is compiled along with sales, radio play and Spotify hits... making it much easier for "viral sensations" to become chart hits.
'Harlem Shake' has been an enormous YouTube hit, with over 103 million views, mainly generated by 'fan-created' videos. For a more in-depth analysis, see the Guardian page below.

'Harlem Shake' on Mad Decent Records, has entered the BBC Radio One singles chart this week at #3

    GTA: New Single 'Hit It'

Ever since appearing in Steve Angello's set at the landmark 'Size In The Park' event in New York last September, 'Hit It!' has been the subject of much anticipation amongst fans and although it might only be January, is undoubtedly set to be one of the biggest tracks of the year. Each bringing their sizeable talents to the table, the results of this three-way collaboration are explosive; refusing to be pigeonholed, the track twists and turns throughout its duration, brimming with insistent rhythms, pulsing bass and incisive melodies which are precision-tooled to cause chaos whenever and wherever it is dropped.

GTA, Henrix and Digital LAB are all tipped for big things this year and 'Hit It' is an exceptional start. Showcasing a dynamic fusion of their individual styles, it is imbued with an undeniable electricity that has quickly become an absolute must have with the Size fan base, who've been anticipating its release since its very first drop.

"I started making music when I was eight. And I started DJing when I was a teenager after a special music class. DJ Pied Piper came in and taught us all how to mix and from that moment i was hooked! All the music in the (essential) mix is stuff that has inspired me or stuff that is hardwired into my brain from listening to it so much! There are also new tracks that give me hope in the music industry. I started laying down tracks and seeing where the mix would go and it was a really experimental process in a lot of ways. I chose tracks that wouldn't necessarily would go together in a club set, but would work as something you would listen to on a day-to-day basis".
