Dryboy, an artist hailing from Chicago and now based in LA, has carved a niche for himself in the music scene by weaving a captivating, enigmatic sound infused with elements of Pop, Rock, and Alternative Hip-Hop. His sonic tapestry draws inspiration from the musical musings of acclaimed artists such as Clairo, Gus Dapperton, Trippie Redd, and Juice WRLD.
The genesis of his unique moniker, Dryboy, stems from a matter-of-fact ethos. He aspires to remain forever youthful, a sentiment that led him to adopt this name. The initial segment of his moniker pays homage to the brand Superdry, chosen simply for its melodic resonance.
Dryboy's artistic journey began with a childhood steeped in dance, heavily influenced by the hip-hop dance crew, the Jabberwockies, and the Step Up film series. However, his evolution was inevitable as he ventured into the realms of beat-making and freestyling, experimenting with “type beats” on YouTube. “It paved the way for creating the music that I like dancing to so much”, he says.
His eclectic musical style owes much to his parents. His father's passion for classic rock music exposed him to its timeless allure, while his mother introduced him to a diverse array of sounds, including Mexican Corridos. From the rhythms of reggaeton to the melodic storytelling of Billy Joel, Dryboy's musical influences know no bounds.
Describing his music as “hopelessly romantic”, Dryboy writes intimate tales of relationships, drawing on the experiences of the people in his life as well as his own. He finds beauty in the act of sharing these deeply personal stories, an ethos that underpins his creative process.
In 2019, Dryboy released his debut single “Summer Nights,” which premiered as a World Star Hip Hop-exclusive music video. The song featured Clever, who is best known for his collaborations with NLE Choppa, Juice WRLD, and Post Malone. Dryboy quickly saw monumental success with “Summer Nights,” a track that has now amassed over 9 million streams on Spotify.
With an impressive track record that includes opening for prominent artists such as Lil Durk, YBN Nahmir, G Herbo, and Calboy, Dryboy's star is on the ascent. His writing and recording style are rapidly evolving, promising a tantalizing EP set to debut in the upcoming year. Keep a close eye on Dryboy, as he is poised to make a significant impact on the dynamic Los Angeles music scene in the months ahead.
