Luke Ritchie: The Music Box Trail

Luke Ritchie came up with a totally unique way of getting his debut album 'The Waters Edge', heard around the world. To place it on an MP3 player, put it in a tin and send it out into the world, with instructions to listen, leave a note and pass it on.

"I've had an idea for a few years, similar in some ways to my podcast. To celebrate the launch of the album, I decided to work on something a little home-made.
My own modern-day music box. Something that only plays the album, and is tangible and unique.

I thought it might be fun to send it to my friends around the world, and ask them to pass it on to their friends, and them on to theirs. It's loosely based on the Book Swap model which has been around for years.

There would be 3 simple steps:
    1. Listen.
    2. Leave a note.
    3. Pass it on.

There are roughly 245 countries in the world, and I want to see how many we can reach... one friend at a time..."

The Felice Brothers: Free Download of 'Cus's Catskills Gym'

Adding their take to a long list of classic boxing songs (think Simon and Garfunkel's 'The Boxer', Warren Zevon's 'Boom Boom Mancini' or Bob Dylan's 'Who Killed Davey Moore,').
The Felice Brothers underline their darkened aesthetic on their track 'Cus's Catskill Gym'. The song, according to Scotland on Sunday, "Delights in contorting different sounds in a conventional structure, escaping the traditional folk band stylings". Told from the perspective of Kevin Rooney, protege to Mike Tyson's manager Cus D'Amato, Cus's Catskill Gym carries much like an actual fight would, with momentous riffs and electronic thuds echoing throughout the story of Mike Tyson's career.

The Mission: On Tour with The Cult and Killing Joke

In late 1985 Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams left The Sisters Of Mercy and formed The Mission, enlisting Simon Hinkler and Mick Brown into their ranks.

In January 1986 The Mission set out on a European tour at the invitation of Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy of The Cult. 26 years later the invitation is extended once again and hence we see The Cult and The Mission performing together for the very first time ever in the UK.

Wayne Hussey: "It'll be great. We played a festival show in Belgium with The Cult back in October last year and it was really lovely to see Ian and Billy again. It had been many years since I'd seen either of them but we sat down and had a chat and it was like no time had passed at all. We'd gone our separate ways over the years and traveled different roads but I always think of Ian and Billy as brothers in arms, kindred spirits, and of course Craig also played with The Cult for a few years so the ties between the two bands always remained intact. I'm looking forward to hearing 'Sanctuary' every night. And it'll be great to have Killing Joke along too. I've been a long time admirer of Jaz and his cohorts. I was fortunate enough to be able to work with Jaz in the studio on a string arrangement he orchestrated and conducted for a Mission album a few years back and he is a huge personality. A baton in one hand and a bottle of brandy in the other. It'll be good to see him again."

The Proclaimers: New Single: 'Spinning Around In The Air'

'Spinning Around In The Air' is now released and available for download.
Taken from the album 'Like Comedy' released on Monday 7th May.

Matt Lucas is a huge fan of The Proclaimers and as well as writing the script for the video he makes his director's debut behind the camera whilst also popping up in a cameo role as the story unfolds.

The video is a satire on a Golden Wedding party set in a Glaswegian bungalow. Proclaimers fans might be a bit surprised by their look, though, as the Reid brothers have been cast by the director to dress up as old ladies.

Charlie said of the requirement imposed on him: "Matt said it was going to be liberating, and I think liberating is an understatement." Matt described his directorial debut as: "It's my first, it might be my last as well. I had this idea to do this 50th anniversary party and shoot it as though it's shot on home video; and there's a punch going around this party that gets all these respectful senior citizens disgracefully drunk and uninhibited."

Of the brothers' costumes, Matt added: "They could turn a man. They've turned me straight. I think it's the start of something new, a new chapter in the lives of one of Britain's top female duos!"

The Proclaimers describe 'Spinning Around In The Air' as "A song about words and how they can change meaning and how you can exaggerate. It's kind of a bit of a nonsense lyrics but it is as they used to say it's a catchy song."

Craig commented, "It was a unique experience. Matt has great ideas and I think the video really compliments the song." Charlie said, "We had a great time doing the video. Matt was a brilliant director and kept everything focussed and hilarious alongside a great cast and crew."
