Anna Calvi: 'Strange Weather EP' Featuring David Byrne
Anna Calvi is to release a 5 track covers EP entitled 'Strange Weather', on 14th July 2014. Produced by Thomas Bartlett (The National, Antony and the Johnsons, Sam Amidon) and recorded in New York, the EP features covers of tracks by Suicide, David Bowie, FKA twigs, Connan Mockasin as well as a stunning collaboration with David Byrne on the title track, a cover of Keren Ann's 'Strange Weather'. The cover of Suicide's 'Ghost Rider' was recorded with drummer Matt Johnson (Jeff Buckley), and Nico Muhly contributes string arrangements to the EP opener, a deconstructed organic reworking of FKA twigs' 'Papi Pacify'.
David Byrne said the following on working with Anna:
"I'm a big fan of Anna's two records... and I caught her tour after her first record at Bowery Ballroom here in NY. 'Epic' I think is the word that is often used. So when Thomas Bartlett said he was going to be in the studio producing an EP of Anna doing covers I immediately agreed to join in. I was invited to suggest songs and I loved the last Keren Ann record and I thought 'Strange Weather' had a haunting quality that might suit Anna.... so we did that, and Anna then suggested I join in on the Connan Mockasin track she'd done too."www.dominorecordco.com/uk/ep/06-05-14/strange-weather

Helmet: 'Betty' 20th Anniversary European Tour
Helmet are pleased to announce a European Betty 20th Anniversary Tour in September/October 2014. The band will be playing their critically lauded 1994 'Betty' album in full, along with a set spanning the entirety of Helmet's catalog.
Billed as the "thinking man's metal band," Helmet provided an alternative to the grunge bands coming out of the US at the time with their clean cut aesthetic and raw, unrelenting, propulsive sound. 'Betty' came on the trails of the band's first mainstream success, 1992's 'Meantime'. The cut 'Milquetoast' became a music video staple on MTV and the album was critically praised for its genre-defying exploration into jazz, blues and improvisation. As music writer Darrell Bassett wrote upon the album's release, "The thump and grind of 'Betty' fully reflects the seemingly meaningless forces that shape our hi-tech existences, the inner pressure that waxes and wanes as life's pace explodes exponentially and its occasional moments of grace. Betty is a surprising album, one which grows as it unfolds its subtleties." A prophetic statement if ever there was one.
See artist page for a full list of 'Betty' tour dates and check local listings for on-sale information.
"Helmet made rhythmically complex steely-riffed alterna-metal that punished your body from weird angles..." - Rolling Stone Magazine
"Helmet have carved - or, rather, bludgeoned - a niche as primary exponents of pummeling, monolithic, heavy guitar-rock. The sheer size and power of their sound dwarfs all but the most extreme of hardcore bands, but there's a precision to Helmet's sound that sets them apart."

The Libertines: At Glasgow Barrowlands
The Libertines have announced they will be playing at Glasgow Barrowland on Sunday June 29th as a warm-up for their headlining shows at Barclaycard British Summer Time at Hyde Park on Saturday 5th July and the Benicassim Festival in Spain on July 19th. The Libertines last played Glasgow Barrowland ten years ago on the 2nd March 2004.

The Libertines debut single, 'What A Waster', which Peter Doherty described as being "the most self-explanatory song in the history of pop" was set free in June 2002. 'Up The Bracket' was released as a single in September and hit the Top 30 and was followed by their debut album, also entitled 'Up The Bracket' (produced by Mick Jones - The Clash).
'Time For Heroes' was unveiled in January 2003 and saw them performing on T.O.T.P for the first time. Their fourth single 'Don t Look Back Into The Sun' ensued in August 2003 and was produced by Bernard Butler (Suede). A second album, 'The Libertines', was released in August 2004 and entered the UK album chart at #1, spawning the top 10 singles 'Can t Stand Me Now' and 'What Became Of The Likely Lads'.Both Peter Doherty and Carl Barat have gone onto have highly successful solo careers as well as with their respective bands - Babyshambles and Dirty Pretty Things. Peter Doherty, who is currently on tour in Europe, released the highly acclaimed third Babyshambles album, 'Sequel To The Prequel', last year. Carl Barat has just formed a new band, recruited via the internet, called Carl Barat & The Jackals, who release their debut album in September.
The Libertines are Peter Doherty - vocals/guitar, Carl Barat - vocals/guitar, John Hassall - bass guitar and Gary Powell - drums.

Marianne Faithfull: 'A Life On Record'
Published to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the release of her groundbreaking debut 'As Tears Go By,' this is the definitive book on Faithfull, one of the most beloved singers of the twentieth century. As a folk singer in London, Marianne Faithfull was discovered in a coffeehouse by the manager of the Rolling Stones in 1964. Over the five decades since, her work as a musician, her performances as an actress on stage and screen, and her influential personal style have made Faithfull an undisputed icon of pop culture. Edited by the artist herself, with accompanying handwritten captions, this book represents a personal collection of images that tell the story of her life from her explosive early success in London, and her infamous relationships with Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, to her rise as an actress and her collaborations with artists as diverse as David Bowie, Nick Cave, and Beck. The book spans Faithfull's evolution from an impossibly fresh innocent who sang like an angel, to the gorgeously mature woman she is today, whose deeper voice and mesmerizing appearance reveal a life full of rich experience.
Including never-before-seen snapshots from Faithfull's personal collection, specially commissioned photographs of her home in Paris, and iconic images by many of the world's best-known photographers Steven Meisel, David Bailey, and Anton Corbijn, among many others this is a revealing celebration of an extraordinary life in popular culture.
Marianne Faithfull's new album 'Give My Love to London' will be released in September 2014. The album is produced by Rob Ellis & Dimitri Tikovoi and mixed by Flood. The band: guitars by Adrian Utley (Portishead), keyboards by Ed Harcourt, Rob Ellis (drums), Dimitri Tikovoi (bass) + string quartet, and special guests Warren Ellis and Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds). Marianne has written the majority of the lyrics with music written by Nick Cave, Anna Calvi, Roger Waters, Pat Leonard, Tom McRae and Steve Earle.
In the autumn, Marianne Faithfull will kick off a world tour which will last over a year, celebrating a career of fifty years of performing and touring. In May Marianne was revealed as the face of Saint Laurent Music Project.
"What I love best is making records and performing." Marianne Faithfull

Erol Alkan: Remixes The Manic Street Preachers
In advance of their forthcoming album 'Futurology', Manic Street Preachers announce a special 12" vinyl press of the single 'Europa Geht Durch Mich' remixed by Erol Alkan. The forthcoming release features two different signature reworks on a limited edition 12", alongside a digital exclusive with Beatport.
In original form 'Europa Geht Durch Mich' is classic Manics and the subtle motorik feel is enhanced by guest vocals from German actress Nina Hoss, and it's her contribution that Alkan leads with on the 'Mesmerise Eins' rework. A singular line is twisted around a techno production that unfolds with dancefloor precision. The accompanying 'Mesmerise Zwei' rework takes a darker, dubbier and more psychedelic approach with Alkan's production skills shining through in the mind bending way Hoss's vocal is manipulated.

Ben Watt: To Be Joined Onstage By Pink Floyd's David Gilmour
Ben Watt used Twitter last night to announce that Pink Floyd's David Gilmour will be playing on three songs at his London show next week at Islington Assembly Hall on Monday May 19. The rare appearance follows Gilmour's cameo on Watt's recently-released acclaimed album, 'Hendra'.
Having already assembled the album's original band for the first time for the date, including ex-Suede guitarist Bernard Butler, the addition of rock titan Gilmour is an unexpected bonus.
"We met by chance last September just before my album," says Watt. "It has all just fallen into place since then. First the album cameo and now this. He came down to rehearsal today to play pedal steel on 'The Levels' - the album track he's on - and now he's joining in on three.
His lead playing is just great. It is an honour to be up there with him and Bernard Butler at the same time."Watt and Gilmour have already recorded and filmed a different acoustic version of 'The Levels' together earlier this year at Gilmour's studio on the south coast that was premiered by Q Magazine.

Tricky: Download Five New Tracks For Free
Whilst Tricky continues to record new material, he has found the time to put together this package of 5 tracks that are from sessions over the last year or so, as well as a couple of personal favourites that you may never have heard before or that are difficult to find.
He wanted to let like-minded people hear these tracks that otherwise would have stayed locked in a vault. When asked why he was giving them away, he said, "Just because I can, and it's just for love"
See Tricky's artist page for new European tour dates.

Crookers: New Single 'Able To Maximise'
This is the little story for 'AbleToMaximize', one night in my house after a really nice dinner with my friends Dilligas we went in studio to play some old dub music and enjoy the night.
Despite we wanted to chill they came out with a little midi file that was insanely stupid. From that midi I/we took the wrongest drums, distorted the shit out of it and add my twist.
Some internet help made the track just abnormal!I would like to thanks the old guy trying to explain to people how to play Pan Flute (first break) and the little girl trying to make that "E", "E"...a "sort of E" ...I love them! This track ended up to be pretty wonky and mad in a good way...and despite everything is working really good in my sets and always put a smile in people listening to it (which is probably the best thing because as my grandmama used to say : Is impossible to see an ugly face if it's smiling).
Are you able to maximize?
ciao!

Imogen Heap: New Video 'Me The Machine'
Imogen said: "Today is Earth Day and 2 years ago I performed the first version of 'Me The Machine' written with and for my Mi.Mu gloves. I am dying to let you hear the album but I have to wait, but today I want to let you hear and see the studio version and the additional music video.
Hope you really enjoy it! Most of the visuals are being manipulated live using my Mi.Mu gloves as I didn't just want to mime. So I went one step further and worked with the team on getting the gloves ready for visual manipulations."New album 'Sparks' coming soon...
