James Welsh: New Release 'Thread / North'
Fresh off the underground success of 'Standing / Slip', a club-ready bullet that received support from DJs such as Scuba, Adam Beyer and Leftfield, James Welsh returns to Phantasy post haste, once again blending a slab of characteristic rave euphoria with a more downtempo trip on the flip.
The release opens on 'Thread', the unmistakeable sound of Welsh pushing his studio to its unworldly limits. Initially building the tension with competing, spectral components, an ominous intro paves the way for the sudden eruption of a stomping, hi-NRG electro bassline. Pathologically chaotic until it's final moments, sudden breakdowns of white noise and ghostly commands lost deep in the mix anchor the listener in reality, enveloped in smoke and strobes, real or imagined.
On the contrary, 'North' stretches a skeletal half-step beat to support a bracing vision of maximalist melancholy. A chilly analogue hymn, awash in choral reverb, heavenly organ sounds coalesce with cathartic distortion, creating a six-minute musical landscape that is at once pleasingly epic, yet tellingly intimate in its more subtle details.
Physical and cerebral in equal measure, 'Thread / North' is a worthy contribution to Welsh's increasingly powerful back catalogue.

The Horrors: New Video For 'Machine'
The Horrors reveal a visually stunning, computer generated abstract video for their critically acclaimed new single 'Machine'. Featuring layers of simulations of micro-organisms, the video is the works of CGI pioneer Jon Emmony who is known for his beautiful, grotesque and intriguing simulation videos.
On making the video, Jon said "The video for 'Machine' is based around the concept of computer simulation. The creatures, formed from sections cut and twisted from insects, crustaceans and bone are arranged in sculptural compositions inspired by artists such as Hieronymus Bosch; finding the surreal within mixed forms and scales. If left, taken away from an edit, the creatures would continue to exist and their movements would evolve. For me this was an exciting way to create digital imagery as having an element of control removed and then decided by a computer seemed fitting with the track. Machines inside machines."

alt-J today debut the brand new video for 'Deadcrush', premiering via WeTransfer. The gripping short film is set in a depopulated, post-human world of the far future, where an ageing supercomputer runs simulations of long-dead historical figures to pass the time. 'Deadcrush' is the latest track to be lifted from the trio's third album 'RELAXER'. Released 2nd June, the LP flew straight into the top 10 of the UK album chart and, in the following weeks, the band performed a sold out O2 Arena show and headlined Bluedot Festival and The Other Stage at Glastonbury Festival.
alt-J: "We are *very* proud to present the video for our new single Deadcrush. A collaboration between choreographer Darcy Wallace and director/dream weaver Young Replicant, it was shot in a water treatment plant in Essex in June 2017. ENJOY."

The Horrors: New Album 'V'
The Horrors release their stunningly assertive fifth album 'V' on September 22nd, on Wolftone / Caroline International.
The album has been previewed by the first single 'Machine' which sees the group at their majestic, imperial best, although the ten tracks on the album are so diverse that when the final song and future single 'Something To Remember Me By' appears to channel dance, trance and '80s pop genres it feels like both the most natural thing in the musical world and also the most surprising. 'V' shows the group at the peak of their powers, exhibiting a freedom and sense of exploration that feels truly liberating.
"It is a risk," says Faris Badwan discussing the band's bold refusal to stand still. "But life isn't much fun without risk. It's the antithesis of being creative if you know what you're going to be doing every time."
Keyboardist Tom Cowan continues: "It's natural, if you do see yourself as an artist, to progress and not play it safe. Bowie pre-empted the modern condition of not being able to stay in one place for very long, and I get frustrated with bands who stay still. Because then it does become a career."
The album artwork comes from talented VFX artist and director Erik Ferguson, who is known for his abstract and intriguing creative vision.
'V' was recorded in London with producer Paul Epworth, who has worked with FKA Twigs, Lorde, Rihanna, Adele, London Grammar, Florence and the Machine, Coldplay, U2 and Paul McCartney, amongst many others.

The Bloody Beetroots: New Single 'My Name Is Thunder'
The Bloody Beetroots announce the release of his new double single, 'My Name Is Thunder', featuring Australian rockers, Jet. This is the first track he has shared following his signing to Last Gang Records, and will appear on his forthcoming album to be released later this year.
"I knew this song needed a certain rock tone... a tone like Nic Cester of Jet had. We thought instead of someone 'like Nic Cester,' how about we get the real Nic Cester! Thinking he would be in Australia, it was fate that he lived just a couple hours away from me in Italy. I found him" says The Bloody Beetroots' Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo. "We worked together, ate together, drank together and created something very powerful together. Around this time the Jet guys stared talking and thinking about getting back together, when Nic shared this with his bandmates, the idea came up to have ALL of Jet involved. Because of our different influences, we had different ideas on the mixing and from that, we came up with two versions. It's the best of both our worlds!"
The double single arrives to represent the various genres that define The Bloody Beetroots, with the first version driven by ethereal vibes and an electronic beat and pulse, while the other is led by heavy synths and Jet's gritty rock and roll.

James Welsh: New 'Thread/North' EP
Fresh off the underground success of 'Standing/Slip', a club-ready bullet that received support from DJs such as Leftfield, Scuba and Adam Beyer, James Welsh returns to Phantasy post haste, once again blending a slab of characteristic rave euphoria with a more downtempo trip on the flip.
Physical and cerebral in equal measure, 'Thread/North' is a worthy contribution to Welsh's increasingly powerful back catalogue.

Swet Shop Boys: On 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert'
Last Thursday, Swet Shop Boys, the trio of Riz MC, Heems and Redinho, performed 'T5' off their 'Cashmere' LP on their debut TV performance for 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert'.
'T5', which centers around Riz MC & Heems' respective Pakistani and Indian backgrounds, and the prejudice they face when traveling while passing through various airport security check points, comes on the same day that Donald Trump's controversial travel ban is re-enacted in the U.S.
Riz & Heems each added an additional poignant verse to the single that was debuted on the Colbert performance last night.
Additionally, Riz MC dropped a verse and performs in the video for 'Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)', off the 'Hamilton Mixtape', continuing the narrative and critique against buildings walls and closing borders.
